Many years ago, when I was into flight simulators, I used a CH Products yoke. I was never really happy with that yoke, it had a number of issues. As I pursued my PPL in my younger days, the difference between the "real thing" and the CH yoke just became greater and greater. Eventually, due to cost and competing interests, I had to put both flying and simulators behind me.When MS Flight Simulator 2020 was announced, I knew I'd be getting back into the simulator world. I was a VFR pilot, of course I was going to fly the first flight simulator truly capable of providing a VFR experience. I was fortunate to see the release coming and purchased this yoke to compliment the experience. As the release got closer and closer, stock of these yokes dwindled and unfortunately, now, they're practically unavailable at any cost. But, I still want to detail my experience.I am quite satisfied with this yoke. While it's still absent of the feel of the "real thing", this more closely replicates a real yoke than anything else in the same grade and cost. I love that there is a full 90 degrees of rotation in the yoke's travel, it's much easier to anticipate what your virtual plane will do. (Both the CH and Logitech yokes do 45 degrees and scale your input to actual roll.) Pitch controls aren't quite as faithful as the roll controls, but they are still quite good at offering resistance in both directions. There are sufficient buttons found on the unit to provide a decent experience with your major virtual plane controls. I have remapped several of the keys to my liking and it was quite easy to develop the muscle memory for them. I do like the power, engine and beacon controls being available on the unit. These definitely offer a more realistic way to engage these functions. These nice little touches make "cold start" or "more realistic" experiences much more enjoyable than remembering a dozen or more keystrokes.Honeycomb made some great decisions with this yoke. I love the removable USB-C connection, it's much nicer to leave my cabling in place when I remove the yoke. The yoke mounting is substantial, well built and super easy to apply to my desk, I don't find it inconvenient at all to convert my desk for a virtual flight experience and then back to a regular desk. Shipping packaging was also well thought out and I love that they included a box that is great for long-term storage if needed. The yoke is just plain attractive and the adjustable red LED backlighting is a nice touch.Value-wise, I think this is a far better yoke than other (also expensive) yokes that make too many compromises. I know it seems a bit crazy to spend this much on a peripheral, but it was worth every penny in my opinion. If you're interested in exploring flight or are a pilot that wants to relive the good old days through a modern virtual experience, this peripheral is where that experience begins. If you've ever paid real money for a real plane, you know the cost of this yoke is less than a couple hours wet. The Honeycomb yoke is as good as it gets in the "cheap yoke" world, you can spend a lot more!As for a note on the seller I purchased from, MG Pilot Shop, it's appropriate to recognize them. I was very satisfied with their quick shipping, they processed my order within two hours and shipped it the same day. I received the product very quickly as well. It was one of the best 3rd party seller experience's I've had on Amazon.I am super looking forward to the Bravo throttle quadrant release and hope I can get one soon. Keep it up, Honeycomb! I'd love to see rudder controls from them as well!(4/20 update below) Purchased from Gulf Coast.Received in a timely manner given the current climate of things. Easy set up with xp11. The software immediately recognizes the yoke and sensibly binds all the buttons. As all the reviews say. This thing is slick. Switches are supper nice and snappy, the ignition switch is kinda goofy lookin but the action is very snappy (does not return to both when start is engaged, so you have to manually set it back after the engine starts.Feel: I have my PPL fixed, mostly 172's and 150's. This isn't going to feel just like those aircraft or any aircraft really. You really need to approach the yoke as being how the aircraft feels period at all speeds. For those who haven't flown a real aircraft, we will take a 172 for example, the slower the air moving over the control surface, the "easier" it will be to manipulate those controls, from a force standpoint. And vice versa, the faster you go the more force you will feel. Of course the effect of those controls inputs is increased at higher speeds. As stated before, this is its own thing and you kind of have to let your brain convince you that THIS is what this plane feels like.Roll: In general, the roll axis is super smooth, some say it could be a bit tighter, I'm honestly fine with it, some adjustment would be cool though to fine tune it. I haven't really looked into it. But yes, very smooth.Pitch: Most people say it, and I agree, pitch is pretty tight. This can cause some casual issues with over controlling the pitch during your round out and flare. because in real life small ga aircraft, that elevator definitely becomes alot mushier during slow flight, but the tightness might work itself out over time. Most sim guys have had their yokes for many years. Again, adjustment would be nice, but this is technically a cheaper yoke.QC Issues: This is in conjunction with the pitch section above, my yoke did feel kind of rough on the pitch axis, compared to the roll axis for sure. It IS smooth, but definitely feels "grainy". This was my first indication of possible qc issues. During testing of the yoke in XP11, I noticed a popping sound as I rolled the yoke left at about 45 degrees. This popping was coming from the ethernet jack on the bottom of the control panel. The jack appeared to not be mounted correctly and had quite a bit of play in it, the left turning of the yoke pulls on the curled cable and thus the jack causing it to pop underneath the adjacent panel plastic. This started to worry me because over say 5 years of use, will that jack have been worn so bad because of movement that it would be inoperable? IDK. But I figured, $250, might as well try to get one with minimal qc issues.Contacted Gulf Coast, they sent me a label, now I am waiting for the replacement. Once I get it in, I'll test everything again and see if it is consistent or better than the first unit.Overall: I wouldn't buy any other yoke. Every pilot that isn't working full time as a pilot should have this and xp11 w/ pilot edge. I love it. That's why I want another one sent to me. It looks cool as hell. At first when I saw the images of the honeycomb design on the panel with the lights was kind of goofy, but honestly it looks pretty cool. It has like 5 brightness settings, the lower the setting really brings out this cool 'darkness'. Switches are great. I am really looking forward to the throttle. This company should be working on rudder pedals as well if they knew what was good for 'em. Edit: They just announced they are coming out with rudder pedals lol.4 stars just because my unit had its minor issues.UPDATE 4/20: I just received my replacement yoke, the above mentioned defects were not present. One thing I noticed was that the box seemed to have the same knife mark on it as the original yoke did. Now, after further inspection, the twim switches appear to be defective, very loose, not nearly as impressive as the first unit's switches were. I specifically remember feeling the switches for the first time and saying to myself "wow these feel high quality, even with the plastic, super tight, good actuation". Not the case here. Needless to say, a little pissed I am having to get another one sent to me. I am going to attempt to have GC send me one with out have to wait for this unit to make its way back to them. If its not fixed this time I guess I'll get a refund and try to get one directly from Honeycomb. I know these are minor things to most people, but when you're dropping $250 on something like this, you want the product to be built correctly. My opinion overall of this yoke is still the same, its great, you just need to get one that doesn't have defective bs parts thrown in it. 3 stars just because of the hassle.Again... not a toy. Solid build and construction. If you fly GA sims, then this is the controller for you. I cant believe I waited this log to get it.Better than I expected. This replaces a Go Flight yoke that turned out not to last very long. This controller is very well constructed and the movement is extremely smooth. Setup was a breeze. It very easily and quickly mounted to my table top setup and was literally plug and play. I’m running win10 with P3D and I had no issues whatsoever. Just needed a couple of quick flights to get the sensitivity and null zones set up properly but after that everything worked great. The extra switches on the front are a nice feature, however I don’t need them since I already have other controllers that handle those functions. The switches on the yoke allow for many different options and you can configure them in a variety of ways. After nearly daily use over a month I’m very pleased with this product and would recommend it highly.Delighted with my new yoke.It is high quality and packaged well.Delivery was prompt.Buyer beware. The yoke worked very well for 6 months then broke. It can not be calibrated and just banks left on its own. It won't recenter and consistently banks left and unusable. Seller not willing to help beyond 30 days. Opened up a ticket with Honeycomb and no answer/acknowledgement well after 10 days of opening ticket.Lost my private and commercial medical a few years back and did some X-plane for some years and not just getting back into MSFS2020 so decided to go the whole hog and get the AlphaSim Yoke, could not obtain the AS Throttle anywhere so went with Logitech in meantime but this AlphSim is very high quality and I am back at 10,000 flying Bonanzas etc like I never gave up flying. Beautiful piece of equipment and worth every penny. If you can afford it I can highly recommend this unit. The shaft is all metal, with a very smooth pitch and bank motion with full 90 degree rotation. The switches look and feel top notch, so does the rubberised plastic surface. Does not feel hollow and flimsy like some of the other options available in this price range. I have managed with a CH yoke for the last 15 years and this upgrade was the best thing that could have happened to my flight simming hobby. The difference compared to my previous CH and Saitek yokes are like night and day. The desk clamps are super sturdy and require only minimal tightening to stay in place, keeping the yoke solidly planted with no movement at all. The flat top surface is much appreciated and gives me a place to rest my ipad with charts. The only con would be the pitch axis which requires considerably more force than the aileron axis. Wish it was lighter to pull. That's just a small gripe though. Overall i am overjoyed with it's quality. It has no detents like a real aircraft yoke, and unlike the competition this will take your hobby to the next level.A huge upgrade from my Logitech joystick! Installation was fast, and didn't require any specific knowledge. Two metal clamps and wide rubberized base hold the yoke securely in place. Overall build quality feels outstanding, just like many other reviewers have mentioned. Yoke action is very smooth and gives a precise control of airlerons, and the elevator. No dead zones whatsoever. All buttons work well, and are easily programmable in X-Plane 11. The LED button at the back lets choose the brightness of the front red LED light or turn it off completely. Once you get this yoke, there's no turning back to the joystick. The only part where the joystick may still be useful is for rudder controls (and I am still using it for throttle). The yoke obviously does not have the rudder axel, so getting the rudder pedals is on my list now.Cons: I can't think of any cons at the moment, but there are a few things on my wish list for this yoke:1. I wish there were a trim wheel like the one on CH Product yokes. Buying the whole Honeycomb quadrant (which is out of stock everywhere btw) does not justify getting just a trim wheel;2. The pitch trim buttons are designed well for trimming down, but are a bit clumsy to trim up by a thumb. I wish those buttons were a bit easier to operate when trimming up;3. The yoke design is opposite to the design of a real Cessna 172; the engine ignition switch is on the opposite side of the yoke. Not sure why designers chose its position on the right. Hopefully it will be fixed in future models;4. The last position of the ignition switch is not spring loaded, which I whish it were.Overall, it's an exceptionally great product and I got it at great price too! Very happy ?!
