Description
Sink into a dark visual novel full of sci-fi mystery. Archetype Arcadia is a dark, sci-fi visual novel set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious disease called the 'Original Sindrome' has wiped out most of humanity. The story revolves around Rust and his sister, roaming empty lands and searching desperately for other humans alive. All other humans have supposedly fallen victim to the disease which causes those inflicted to suffer from insanity, sensory illusions, and uncontrollable self-destructive urges. The only way to control those symptoms is by spending time inside a virtual game called Archetype Arcadia. Rust doesn't suffer from the disease, but when his sister who does mysteriously falls unresponsive one day, he must enter the virtually immersive game and navigate this unseen world to find a fix for his sister. Within the game exists a whole new world full of people and monsters. A world in which wearing a game device allows players to utilize powerful memories and corresponding avatars to fight each other. While this virtual existence supposedly delays the disease, it also carries severe consequences. As Rust battles his way through this strange world for a cure, he meets various people with unexpected identities and origins, makes unbreakable friendships, and undoubtedly some enemies along the way. Archetype Arcadia is a plot which unravels beautifully and shockingly, taking the player along a journey of mystery, heartbreak, friendship and salvation.

Technically the game works great on the switch and is touch screen enabled. They game auto saves before every choice and also allows user to select chapters, skip to next choice, and even unlock all routes. In short they don’t waste any of your time and I wish some of these feature were in other VN.This game is pretty much an “on the rails” visual novel. There are choices, but they are obvious and send you to and end game in just a min or two. Feel like there was a quota.Storywise… it is almost competent. There are English spelling errors, so if that bothers you I guess skip this title. The story is long, don’t think cheaper launch price VN means shorter. The writers and artists really did try. Best way to some it up, would be a B movie. The story pretty much tries to keep itself serious the whole way through… I guess a bit like Sword Art Online (game can kill you). However, the story tries to stretch into twist and turns, but they somehow fall flat. Some parts are super slow, other parts move super fast. Even when I am caught by surprise, the feeling is more like Ah, man that wasn’t the last chapter. It feels like I read 2-3 amateur litRPG novels back to back, or an anime adaptation where they forced too much content of a mediocre manga into one season.Another challenge is the VN medium. There are times when world wide impacting events occur. I.e Monster swarm. From the writing we know there should be an infinite variety of monsters, but in the images there are only a few graphics.I don’t not-recommend. However, it is a mediocre title. I am glad to see this publisher getting into the genre.
